Professional cleaning
Professional cleaning removes the hardened tartar and surface stains that daily brushing cannot reach. We use ultrasonic instruments followed by fine hand instruments, then polish each surface to discourage plaque from re-accumulating.
A cleaning is not the same as a hygiene consultation — it is the technical part of the visit. Most patients benefit from a clean every six months, more frequently if they are prone to tartar build-up or have had periodontal treatment.
Tooth whitening
Whitening lightens the natural colour of teeth safely when done under supervision. We offer two approaches: in-clinic whitening for a faster, controlled result in a single visit, or home whitening with custom-fitted trays for a gentler change over two weeks.
Before any whitening, we examine your teeth to rule out decay, exposed dentine or gum disease — any of these must be treated first, because whitening solutions penetrate the enamel. We also discuss realistic expectations: whitening lightens natural tooth colour but cannot change the colour of existing crowns, veneers or fillings, which is important to plan around.
Care afterwards
For the first few days after whitening, we recommend avoiding strongly staining foods and drinks — coffee, red wine, curry, berries. Some mild sensitivity is normal and usually settles within 48 hours. The result lasts years with good hygiene and occasional top-up treatments.
Whitening is cosmetic dentistry at its most conservative: no drilling, no numbing, no permanent change to tooth structure — just a brighter version of what is already there.
